biography

Born in Orimattila in Finland in 1955, he has studied at the Television and Cinema University in Munich. In the mid-eighties he started to direct long feature films such as the grotesque gangster movie Rosso (1985) and Napoli-Berlino un taxi nella notte (1987). In 1992 he was awarded as Best Director at the Finnish Film Prize with Zombie and the Ghost Train. He has also directed some documentaries like Tigrero – A Film That Was Never Made (1993) with Samuel Fuller and Jim Jarmusch. Since 1989 he has been living  between Europe and Rio de Janeiro.
