Hauser

biography

He was a Berliner, a sailor during World War I, a pilot, a journalist and a novelist, influenced by Joyce and Conrad; he made two feature films, Die letzten Segelschiffe (1930) and Weltstadt in Flegeljahren: ein Bericht über Chicago (Metropolis in the thankless age: a report on Chicago, 1931). Hauser in 1933 emigrated to the United States where he became a farmer, then returned after the war to Germany.
