biography

He was born in Hamburg in 1939. From 1959 to 1964 he studies graphic design and photography in Malerei. He starts his career as a filmmaker with experimental animated films, and soon begins to cooperate with Ursula Asher-Winzetsen. From 1970 to 1983 he works for the theatre as a puppeteer and mask-maker. Since 1987 he has been teaching animation at the Hochschule in Hamburg. His works include Staub (1967), awarded with the Special Jury Prize at the Annecy International Animation Filmfestival in the same year; Flamingo (1984), Die Königin des Schwarzen Marktes (1988), Der Fotograf (1988) and Der Untergang des Goldenen Webstuhls (1992), animated features; Der Porzellanladen (1995), Der Besenbinder, Der Fotograf und Der Koch (1998).
