biography

He is a director, screenwriter, and producer; he has won an Oscar, four BAFTAs, a Grammy, and a European Film Award. He is best known for his acclaimed trilogy, Senna (2010), Amy (2015), and Diego Maradona (2019), about child prodigies and the price of fame—fiction films constructed entirely from archive footage. He has directed and produced several successful series, including Mindhunter (2017) and 1971: The Year Music Changed Everything (2021). A former member of the BAFTAs and Academy Awards Film Committee for documentary films, he has been awarded honorary degrees by the Royal College of Art, the University of Westminster, and the University of East London.
