È illustratore, fumettista, animatore e regista. In Irlanda ha fondato la casa di produzione di animazione Cartoon Saloon. Il suo primo lungometraggio The Secret of Kells (2009) e Song of the Sea sono stati entrambi candidati all'Oscar.
