biography
Nato a Pune (India) nel 1958, ha studiato presso la Delhi School of Economics. È un documentarista indipendente che ha iniziato come ricercatore in una serie di documentari scientifici per la televisione indiana. La sua prima regia, Kinnaur Ke Log (La gente di Kannaur, 1983), tratta di un anno della vita di un pastore dell'Himalaya. Nel 1986 partecipa alla creazione della Octave Communications, una casa di produzione situata a Nuova Delhi oggi in piena attività. Con il film In the Forest hangs a bridge (1999) vince il Golden Lotus per il miglior documentario al National Film Awards in India e l'Asian Gaze Award al Busan Film Festival in Corea.
