Dopo gli studi di geografia all’Università di Riga ha iniziato a lavorare come cameraman, sceneggiatore e regista per il Riga Documentary Film Studio, lo Studio Gilde e la Latvia State Television. Tra i suoi lavori Eastern Border of Land (2000), Liberty Live (2001) e For All My Life (2003).
