Giovanissimo viaggia per il mondo realizzando reportage. Passa alla finzione con Il grande Match (2007). Abel, insieme a Entrelobos (2010) e El faro de las orcas (2016), compone una trilogia che il regista ha dedicato al rapporto uomo-animali.
