Regista e produttore noto soprattutto per la creazione di lungometraggi documentari d’indagine. I suoi film si concentrano sull'impatto ecologico, sociale e politico delle risorse naturali. Vincitore di oltre quaranta premi internazionali, dal 2017 è membro dell'European Film Academy.
