biography
She was born near Birkenfeld, Germany. She studied ethnology and oriental cultures at the University of Zurich. At Peking University she deepened her knowledge of Chinese language, literature and philosophy. For the past 10 years he has been attending China working in the film industry. He teaches at the Hochschule für Farmathen und Film in Munich; he writes regularly on Chinese cinema and is chief consultant of Sinofilm Consulting in Zurich. She collaborated on Bernardo Bertolucci's The Last Emperor (1988) and Little Buddha (1993), was production consultant on Chen Kaige's Life on a String (1991) and assistant director to Ulrike Ottinger on the set of Joan of Arc of Mongolia (1989) and Nikita Mikhalkov's Urga (1993). He wrote and directed Qi-Gong-Die Kunst der Stille als Lebenselixier (Qi-Gong-The Art of Silence as the Elixir of Life, 1995). He won several major awards with Die Salzmänner von Tibet, including the Golden Charybdis for Best Film at the Taormina International Film Festival in 1997 and the Golden Spire Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 1998.
