biography
He began his career directing films and TV programs in Australia. His best known early film was Phar Lap (1984), a denouncement of the world of horse racing. His first work in the United States was the comedy D.A.R.Y.L. (1985). Free Willy, the story of a boy and a whale, was a Hollywood hit, whose tone and style were inspired by Phar Lap. His work in U.S. television has also been acclaimed.
