biography
He was born in Prague and grew up in Canada. He received his Ph.D. in political philosophy from Harvard University in 1997 and was an academic for seven years until he left his university career to become an independent documentary filmmaker. He founded with Corinne van Egeraat the ZINdoc production company, through which they have made short and feature documentaries since 2000 shown at over 400 film festivals and on television in over 20 countries. Their Myanmar Diaries (2022) garnered them a best documentary award at the Berlinale. Both are members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts.
